Most of the time, I was not able to play WebM encoded video in Firefox nor Chrome and it was an additional step in my workstream.\nOver the weekend, I did two things; I re-encoded all of the videos using the x264 encoder and I deleted all of the WebM video. Hopefully, this hasn\u0026rsquo;t caused too many issues with my viewing public. Please contact me via the Contact page if so.\nA coupe of quick notes:\nI used x264 in Compressor by adding the x264 component to the Quicktime components in Library. Larry Jordan has a nice explanation of how to do this. For most of the HD videos, I created half-size videos then upscaled them on playback. This results in a moderately small file size with nice quality. The trick on using Compressor is to follow Larry\u0026rsquo;s advice of creating .mov files which is a Quicktime container. Most browsers will play a Quicktime container but my Nexus 7 had a problem. The key is to use Quicktime 7 to convert it from .mov to .mp4. Larry states one can do this without re-encoding but fails to advise how. There is a \u0026ldquo;pass through\u0026rdquo; option when using \u0026ldquo;File -\u0026gt; Export -\u0026gt; Convert Movie to MPEG-4\u0026rdquo;. This will simply copy the file from .mov format to .mp4 format without re-encoding. Click on Options on the Save window and select MP4 from the drop down menu at the top of the box and click on the Video button right below the dropdown. Below the Video button is another dropdown and on this one, select Pass through. This isn\u0026rsquo;t unusual for a lot of developers; it helps to stage your site, it allows you to make mistakes with little impact on the outside world and it allows you to be productive away from an Internet connection.\nI\u0026rsquo;ve been fairly successful at doing this with Wordpress 2.x. The new version seems to be a somewhat different story. My typical method of duplication is to:\nCopy the site folder from on location to another Copy the MySQL database with the following changes: Change references from www to my local MAMP server (www.wellys.org to wellys.org:8888) Change file location references as well (/Home/Username to /Users/Shared) Change the wp-config file for the proper local information Not this time with 3.0:\nThe Header didn\u0026rsquo;t change to my custom header The menus didn\u0026rsquo;t change to my custom menus So far (cross fingers) those two items seem to be the only issues. Mmmm. I hate it when this happens.\nUPDATE:\nThe image for my header was in my media uploads folder but it wasn\u0026rsquo;t available to use for the twentyten theme (the twentyten theme only pulls images from your system and not from the media library). So I had to delete the image from my media library then reload it in the theme loader\u0026hellip; sigh. The menus were setup but not enabled. I simply had to choose the menu in the theme menu settings then save menus and I was up to speed. That was nice. UPDATE (again):\nIn the past, I typically just reloaded the MySQL tables to ensure the two blogs were identical, this isn\u0026rsquo;t as easy. Instead, I have the same two issues happening again AND I\u0026rsquo;m starting to get pingbacks from my own site. This is getting to be a nasty mess. UPDATE (June 5, 2011)\nI attempted this again and it really is pretty easy. The specific directions are:\nExport the online wellysblog db into a SQL file. Hype works. It is also version 1.0 so it is basic but it works, doesn\u0026rsquo;t crash and holds great promise.\nI\u0026rsquo;ve been attempting to change my WELLINGTON ROAD Pictures site from a database-driven, somewhat static site to a bit more dynamic, HTML5-based site for sometime. See here, here, here, here and here. Sigh, note the last time I attempted to make changes was almost 9 months ago.\nI read about Hype, paid my $29.99 and dove in. The first thing I did was try to create an identical version of my current site. Yeah, that was easy but it was also clear that my database approach to my current layout was far superior. With my current layout, when I create a new film, I upload a poster jpeg, my film and add another line to the database. No coding required. Also somewhat boring from a design perspective.\nWith Hype, I needed to duplicate a new scene (think web page) for each film. And I would have to embed the Notes and Time text on each page. The management overhead is considerably more using the Hype approach. The extra steps make sense for I am duplicating a static site with a content creator for dynamic sites.\nWhat would be required if I went to a more dynamic design? My mental image of a dynamic WRP site would be to use a film metaphor. I wanted to represent each film by a frame in a film strip. I would have a limited number of films showing and the user would move the film forward or backward to see additional films. Click on a frame would show the film using HTML5 video playback with its most important attribute, play full-screen.\nSo I started anew with Hype. Using a film strip image, I created 4 scenes, each with a filmstrip of four films and I added very simple text buttons to indicate forward, backward and home. It was quite simple to add transitions to make the filmstrip look like it was going from left to right and right to left for forward and backward, respectively. The crossfade transition also looked nice for showing the film. Hype did advise me that the transitions were only available in Webkit browsers (Safari, Chrome) as Opera and Firefox had yet to implement them. Hype also advised me that only Safari and IE would show the H.264 forms of my films and I would have to use WebM or Theora encoding to have them play in Opera, Firefox or Chrome. [Ed. note: The 1990\u0026rsquo;s are calling and they want their browser incompatibilities back.] It worked and it took about 2 hours worth of work. Not bad!\nMy review of Hype:\nEase of Use: Excellent! I did read over the manual quite quickly to gain an overview of how Hype worked. I also watched the first tutorial. So maybe 10 minutes of preparation. I quickly created a basic website than went to creating a dynamic website in 30 minutes. The design guides work well and the inspector mode continues to be an excellent method of managing metadata. With my site design, I had a significant amount of duplication of scenes. Copying elements from one scene across to the other scenes worked well and accelerated my development. Speed of  development and ease of use is where Hype shines.\nPower: How much can one do with Hype? Quite a bit and not enough. I am an intermediate when it comes to web design, a neophyte in HTML5 and a non-starter in Javascript. So having the ability to quickly mockup a dynamic site with user actions moving from scene to scene was quite liberating. Hype  can and will be a good replacement for Flash beginners. Instead of learning Flash and creating proprietary websites that break the internet, one can create HTML5/Javascript/CSS3 sites that break the internet. Yes, this is the problem with Hype.\nHype creates a single webpage that then using dynamic properties to display new content. It works pretty well but it does break the concept of using a specific address for specific content. I thought that my previous design had this fatal flaw as well but one can right click on any movie to obtain the link to showing the specific film. What is also nice is that the specific page does show the film using the HTML5 Video tag, which means it will allow playback in fullscreen. Hype can not provide this level of specificity. Its as bad as Flash. Bummer. While this is a show-stopper for my site, I\u0026rsquo;ll continue to comment on Hype.\nAn issue I had with Hype was global changes. I didn\u0026rsquo;t see a method of making a global change to all selected scenes. I wasn\u0026rsquo;t able to select more than one scene then applying a change to all. There is a complete lack of contextual changes. Quite often, I would right click to see if there was something I could do to an element. Nope. No response.\nWebsite: Not so much. Due to Hype\u0026rsquo;s use of creating one \u0026ldquo;page\u0026rdquo; which changes dynamically, ALL content resides in Hype\u0026rsquo;s folder. For my site, this created a 675MB upload and a duplication of all of my movie and image content. What I could have done was hand edited the Javascript file and changed all of the references to those inside the folder to the pre-existing content on my site. This isn\u0026rsquo;t a deal-killer. I think a simple property that allows one to enter the address of the content would make this problem go away fast. Version 1.1 perhaps?\nSummary: I like Hype. It is easy to use, provides extremely fast prototyping and can be quite powerful using web standards. [Ed. note: I\u0026rsquo;m not even going to check if it provides validates. I felt that MAMP met these goals better than going with the native OS X web environment. Use this backup to create backup MySQL database for the backup old installation, I called it oldBackup. Duplicate the oldblog directory using Finder - Duplicate then rename i.e; “oldblog28” Verify new site works by doing the following: Export only the wrp_options table using Sequel Pro Using Textmate, change all references of the blog directory to the new name i.e; oldblog to oldblog28 and (if necessary) make sure all www references are changed to local i.e; wellys.org:8888 to wellys.org:8888 (this is for MAMP running Wordpress locally) In the oldblog28 wp-config file, change the name of the database to oldBackup Load the new site into Safari and confirm links are pointing to the new directory, browse the site a bit to ensure it is a fully working backup. Back to the site being updated, deactivate ALL plugins. Download and extract the new WordPress package. On the old site, save the following: wp-config.php wp-content folder but delete wp-content/cache and wp-content/plugins/widgets wp-images (not found in oldblog) Open two windows in Finder and delete all files but the above 6 a-c. Move the new Wordpress files over to the old directory. Using this method, you can methodically ensure you are updating/replacing all of the files. I had a little bit of work in the wp-content folder, making sure I didn\u0026rsquo;t delete any changes I had made to my blog. Log back into the blog and it should upgrade the database and site automatically. The latest version of iMovie 8.0.3 added the ability to optimize video. I started with 8.0.3, so I\u0026rsquo;m unsure on what I couldn\u0026rsquo;t do before .0.3 was released. A couple of quick points:\nThe Flip Ultra HD comes bundled with FlipShare. It seems to work well enough for trimming and emailing videos but when you have iMovie at your fingertips, FlipShare is a bit lacking. FlipShare requires the 3ivx MPEG decoder. This decoder is included in the FlipShare software. If it isn\u0026rsquo;t installed, FlipShare will ask to install it. FlipShare can trim video and \u0026ldquo;create a movie\u0026rdquo; by linking videos together, adding a title and credits, and a music clip. No great shakes but its free and is easy to use AND it comes on the camera so you can use it anywhere.\niMovie 09 (version 8.0.3) is able to import directly from the Ultra HD. iMovie will convert (\u0026ldquo;optimize option\u0026rdquo;) the file into the Apple Intermediate Codec format which allows one to edit in either iMovie or in Final Cut Pro. This does make the file much larger (4-6 times) but it ensures that the file is in a format that is easily used by all of Apple\u0026rsquo;s video editing tools.\nQuicktime Pro can also edit the Ultra HD video. In fact, as a video editor while not as easy, it is much more powerful than the FlipShare software. It can convert it into just about whatever format your heart desires as well.\nBased on a fair amount of discussion, it seems the best thing to do is to follow iMovie\u0026rsquo;s example and convert the video into the AIC format. The quality won\u0026rsquo;t get any better but it won\u0026rsquo;t degrade. If  one were to edit and export the H.264 compressed video from the Flip, the video could degrade through the different applications that would decode and encode it.\nA great source of information is this book: \u0026ldquo;Ins and Outs of iMovie 09\u0026rdquo;. If you are doing any editing of the Flip video, it is well worth it.\nUpdate:\nI did find this very contrarian post as well, that stated AIC was a blight on the universe and run very far and very fast from it. It has taken me a little while to figure this out. This tutorial describes just using one computer but you can do the same for multiple computers.
